What to look for in tarps and accessories
Buying a tarp is quick. Whether it works at the pitch comes down to the details.
Size
How much cover do you need?
A 3 × 3 m tarp covers a table and four chairs. At 4.5 × 3 m you also have room for a cooking area or bags.
Poles
Height matters
With 2.8 m poles you can pitch one side high and the other low so rain runs off. Shorter poles are easier to carry.
Pegs
Match the ground
In hard or stony ground, heavy steel pegs hold better than thin wire pegs. In wind, add a couple of extra pegs.
Roof tent
Tarp on your roof tent?
Alvar, Tjelvar and Halvor 160 have their own tarps and annexes. You'll find them in our roof tent accessories.
Tarps, tarp poles and pegs for your pitch
A camping tarp turns a pitch into a living space: under it you cook in the shade and stay dry when it rains. Our Skygge and Hegagon tarps are made from a poly-cotton blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton.
To keep the tarp up, you need tarp poles and good tent pegs. The Barande poles come in two lengths, up to 2.1 m and up to 2.8 m. The galvanised steel T-pegs are 30 cm long and hold even in hard ground.
Our camping accessories also include the Torke towel. Accessories made for a specific roof tent, such as tarps, annexes and spare parts, are in our roof tent accessories.
FAQ about camping accessories
Which tarp pole do I need?
For a simple sun shade, poles up to 2.1 m (Barande M) are enough. If you want to pitch high or stand under the tarp, take the Barande L at up to 2.8 m.
How many pegs do I need for a tarp?
For a tarp with two poles you need at least six pegs: two per pole for the guy lines and two for the corners. The T-peg set contains eight.
Is the tarp waterproof?
The poly-cotton fabric protects against sun and rain. To let rain run off, pitch the tarp at an angle with one side higher than the other.
Do the tarps fit my roof tent?
Skygge and Hegagon are freestanding tarps. Alvar, Tjelvar and Halvor 160 have their own tarps that attach directly to the roof tent. You'll find them in our roof tent accessories.
